By convening, connecting and championing the sector, we amplify the value and impact of our members to advance priorities that matter most to Canadians – including good jobs and a place to live, healthy communities, a thriving economy and a solid and stable future for their children. In doing so, we position colleges and institutes as key partners in meeting Canada’s – and the world’s – biggest challenges.
Our network of 135 members (in 2024-25) spans every province and territory, serving urban, rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. With more than 95% of Canadians living within 50 km of a CICan member, we are truly accessible and reliable public anchor institutions. Thanks to our extensive reach around the globe, including partnerships in over 30 countries, CICan works to future-proof communities in Canada and abroad.
We respectfully acknowledge that CICan’s offices in Ottawa are located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation.
Reconciliation: CICan worked in co-creation with our members to establish seven principles for Indigenous education to improve the participation, engagement and recognition of Indigenous communities in Canada’s colleges and institutes.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: CICan is a signatory of the Government of Canada 50-30 Challenge and leads a National EDI Advisory Committee that provides strategic guidance and supports inclusive practices across the college and institute sector.
Sustainable Development: CICan is a signatory of the SDG Accord and encourages the sharing of best practices by serving as the pan-Canadian UNEVOC Centre and the lead for the North American cluster of centres.
